Version 1.41 has been released to fix a bug which prevents shifts from having more than 1 character.
In the next release, more colors will be available for shifts (You will be able to choose from a color palette)

I am a serving UK Police officer, and work a complex shift pattern. Simple Roster is an invaluable tool to arrange a life around work, thanks. It would help if at some point you could add a notes function for each day, maybe with time slots so I can dispense with using Calendar alongside Simple Roster.
